Age Cutoff Change for Pony Baseball (2018)

Hi CSA Families,

We wanted to give you advanced notice about an upcoming rule change that will affect ALL PONY ORGANIZATIONS next Spring (2018).

Only players born between May 1st and August 31st will be affected by the following rule change.

The "League Age" cutoff date, which determines the age group that your sons and daughters belong to, will be moved from April 30 to August 31. This move coincides with what other leagues are doing to better align the age groups with the school cut-off ages and allows the kids to play with their classmates. See the table below for the new age chart for the upcoming season:

This rule change also ensures that our divisions will no longer have players that "age up" during the playoffs and summer tournament seasons. In the past, a player who played in the 12U/Bronco division could possibly turn 13 when playoffs are usually played in May if that player's birthday was May 1st, as an example.

Impact

Some current CSA players might lose a year in a division in 2018 and will have to skip to the next higher division.

For example, a first-year Pinto player this year with a birth date of May 30 would need to play in the Mustang division in 2018 (thus eliminating their 2nd year of Pinto eligibility).

Please reach out to us if you have any questions about this rule change.

Thank you,

CSA Pony Baseball

PONY Baseball adopts USA Baseball bat standard

In conjunction with USA Baseball and its other participating national member organizations, PONY Baseball has adopted the new USA Baseball bat standard (USABat). Effective January 1, 2018, with the exception of -3 (BBCOR certified), all other minus factor bats (-5, -7, -9, etc.), must be YBBCOR certified with the USABat licensing stamp on the bat in order to be used for league and tournament play. Minus factor bats -5, -7, -9, etc. used in 2017 will be illegal to use in 2018.

The new YBBCOR certified bats bearing the USABat licensing mark are expected to be offered in retail stores in September.
